John A. Carson, Professional Engineer - Owner

John A. Carson studied mechanical engineering at the University of Binghamton, Watson Engineering School. Mr. Carson graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991.  John Carson holds a professional engineering license in New York State.  Mr. Carson also has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Florida.

Mr. Carson began his professional career as a Project Construction Engineer for Shell Oil Company in New Jersey.  In 1994 John was promoted to Environmental Engineering Manager for Shell Oil Company’s Florida retail operations.  While working in Florida, John attended the University of South Florida to earn a Maters Degree in Business Administration.  After earning his MBA, Mr. Carson was promoted to Shell Oil Company’s corporate office in Houston Texas as a Gasoline Trading Analyst.  In 1997 John Carson accepted another promotion with Shell Oil Company to be the Distributor Business Manager of Shell Lubricants operations in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.  Mr. Carson held his position with Shell Lubricants until 2003 when his entrepreneurial ambitions overtook his corporate desires.

It was in 1997 that Mr. Carson established Carson Irrigation in Louisville, Kentucky.  Carson Irrigation quickly earned a reputation with discerning residential customers in the central Kentucky area.  Gradually, the business completed an increasing larger share of commercial projects.  Carson Irrigation completed residential and commercial projects in central Kentucky and projects as far north as southern Ohio. 

In 2004, family circumstances encouraged Mr. Carson to open a second branch of his company near his hometown in New York State.   John brought a new level of technical expertise and professionalism to the central New York market.  Mr. Carson’s companies experienced a strong demand for new irrigation and lighting system installations.  At the same time the referral business earned Carson Irrigation many maintenance customers from systems that were installed by others. 

In 2007 Mr. Carson opened Carson Groundworks to meet the needs of his New York customers.   The purpose of this company is to be a complete, turn key, 4-season property development and maintenance company.

Mr. Carson is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society.  John Carson is a member of the Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky and is in regular attendance at his local New York church.  Mr. Carson is also the President of the local Snowmobile Club near Ithaca, New York.  John’s hobbies include off-road motorcycling, snowmobiling, road bicycling, and travel.
